2016 was an interesting year. With just a few days left before its end, I decided that I would start capturing some of my thoughts on various political and social events, developments and issues. My motivation is primarily personal. I hope that by taking the time to write out my thoughts and feelings it will force me to reflect on them more. Allowing others to read and respond to those thoughts should also help inform and evolve them.
Freedom, Family and Faith are the three legs of my political point of view. This puts me firmly within the definition of conservative politics. However, I find politics increasingly divisive and party politics increasingly polarised. One of my personal themes is. that we are more alike than different. When it comes to politics and social issues I think most of us are alike in what we want – the ultimate goal. We differ mostly in how we want to achieve this goal and even then the differences are sometimes not as huge as we think or are led to believe.
It is quite possible that, as a white Christian male with a conservative paradigm I am irredeemably and deplorable. I hope not. I hope instead that I am a reasonable conservative: free to speak my mind, willing to hear others and open to the change that respectful debate inevitably generates.
